Fifth Biennial

International Conference on Music Since 1900
University of York, 4-8 July 2007

The Department of Music at the University of York is delighted to be hosting the next International Conference on Music Since 1900, exploring topics pertinent to musics of the 20th and 21st centuries.

ICMSN 2007 aims to emphasize the following themes, applicable to all genres of music (pop, commercial, concert, jazz, folk, world...):

• Present-day composition shaped by and shaping social and historical forces
• Technological innovations and social context
• Music in non-Western cultures
• Improvisation and improvised music
