The Kreutzer Quartet is recognised as one of Europe's most dynamic and innovative string quartets. They are the dedicatees of numerous works, and have forged creative partnerships with many composers including Sir Michael Tippett, David Matthews, Michael Finnissy and Judith Weir. Their work in collaboration with art galleries has garnered much attention, and large audiences, particularly their annual residency at the Tate Gallery, St Ives. They are an ensemble-in-residence at the University of York and Artists in Association at Wilton's Music Hall.

In this concert, four pieces from the 1820s are complemented by a duo for violin and cello by Thomas Simaku, premièred in Venice last year and played by its dedicatees. The Quartet is joined by Jessica Hayes, a fast-rising star in the cello world, in Schubert's sublime Quintet.
