SightSonic/Science City York Seminars

Fountains Lecture Theatre, York St John University

SightSonic, in partnership with Science City York, offers free seminars led by some of the UK’s leading digital artists and creative practitioners.

Aimed at anyone with an interest in furthering their digital creative skills or developing their professional practice, the seminars will offer a fascinating insight into the artists’ practice and the technology they use to create their work.

 

The programme for the day is:

10:30 Craig Vear

A leading sound artist and composer, Craig will be discussing field recordings and sound installation work.

11:30 Vicki Bennett (People Like Us)

One of the UK’s foremost A/V multimedia artists, Vicki will be talking about the audio and video manipulation technology she uses in her creative practice.

12:30 Lunch (provided free of charge to delegates)

13:15 Joe Gilmore & Christopher Murphy

Practising artists and curators of Template, this year’s SightSonic exhibition at City Screen, Joe and Chris will talk about the curation of art exhibitions and group shows, from the point of view of the artist and the curator.

14:15 Semiconductor

Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt will discuss their use of digital moving image technologies in the creation of their award-winning films.

15:15 Coffee

15:25 Jamie Wyld

Head of Media Arts at Lighthouse Arts in Brighton and formerly Visual Arts Officer for Arts Council England, Jamie will be talking about how to put together effective proposals and funding bids and get your work shown.

Jamie has also very kindly  offered to run three 20-minute one-to-one advice sessions following his seminar. These sessions will provide the opportunity to get expert advice on your project proposal or funding bid. If you’re interested in booking one of these sessions please email Kirsty Halliday at kirsty@red-sand.co.uk including a brief biography, an outline of the area you would like to discuss with Jamie and a short list of questions for Jamie by Friday 7th March.
