Spire Live in York Minster Minster bell ringers Complementing Spire, and celebrating the magnificence of the Minster bells, the concert will be preceded with performances by the award-winning York Minster bell ringers and during the afternoon, in the Crypt, there will be Leif Inge's three hour time stretched installation of Bach's Toccata and Fugue. The featured artists are Charles Matthews (organ), Marcus Davidson (organ and piano), Christian Fennesz (electronics), Phil Jeck (turntables), BJNilsen (electronics), Robert Millner, John Beaumont and Amy Moore (voices), Minster bell ringers and Leif Inge (installation). International musicians and composers including Charles Matthews, Marcus Davidson and operatic tenor Robert Millner perform new work by Marcus Davidson and music by Gorécki, Pärt and Duruflé amongst others. BJNilsen combines real and sampled organ sounds to create a sea of thunderous sound, and Christian Fennesz fuses organ tones and electronics into an ethereal chorus. Philip Jeck creates virtuoso turntable collages with organ sources from liturgy to rock and beyond. Spire has been performed at cathedrals and churches in Geneva, Linz, Amsterdam and Brussels in Europe and in Newcastle and Leeds Town Hall in the UK. This production is a partnership between SightSonic, Touch and the University of York's Concert Series, by kind permission of the Dean & Chapter of York Minster.
